Hue is a beautiful little town around a 3 hours drive away from Da Nang. Hue is known for its 19th-century Citadel which was constructed during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1945).
Apart from the emperor heritage, Hue also has a romantic atmosphere due to these historic sights and the city’s location on the river which you will pass by several times when cruising around with your scooter. Rather than eating in a restaurant you could just grab some yummy Vietnamese street food and drive to the river to sit down on a bench with a lovely view.
Hotel-wise, there are lots of cheap hotels that have nice rooms and super friendly staff. We only paid around 15 USD for a simple and clean hotel that was located super centrally. What is practical in many hotels in Vietnam, is that you can just rent a directly scooter from the hotel. Going by scooter just lets you get around within the city much quicker than by taxi. Same holds for true for Hue.
Hence, sort out your scooter and start enjoying the stuff the city has to offer! There are lots of things to do in Hue that easily fill a few days. Just the emperor sights already take up to 2-3 days to visit. Not to mention the surrounding areas and all the little alleys within Hue.
When I arrived in Da Nang, I only had one week to go before my flight to New Zealand. Hence I stayed two nights in Da Nang, 2 nights in Hue and 3 nights Hoi An. So I had to squeeze in a lot into my two days in Hue. Here my top three must-see historic sights in Hue. Just click on the photo to get to the post.

Great post! The photographs are fantastic, it looks like such an incredible place.
This looks so old and culture rich place to visit! I was always fascinated with similar architecture so no wonder I can’t stop looking at these photos. It comforting to know that at least accommodation isn’t expensive since the traveling would definitely be from the place I am.
