Hue’s Emperor Citadel is located right in the centre of Hue. Visiting the village easily takes up half a day if you take a guide and are serious about learning as much as possible. The signs and descriptions are not the best in the Citadel and often not translated to English. There is a video though, that gives you the main information and also shows you how the Old Village looked like during emperor times. The video takes around 10min and is well done, so make sure you watch it if you come without a guide.
There are no snacks served inside except chips, so don’t come here on an empty stomach (which I did!). They do have coffee inside though (yes!). The architecture in the emperor village is stunning and much is still very well maintained. I was there on a weekday around noon and it wasn’t really crowded. The village is quite big, so you are likely going to find a quiet spot to have a little break and take in the ambience.
