Isla Del Sol – Copacabana

Isla Del Sol - Copacabana Boliva

Copacabana on the Bolivian side of the Titi Caca Lake is not quite like the Copacanaba in Brazil, and in ‘not quite’ I mean not at all! So don’t have too high expectations when you visit the place. Should you be driving from La Paz to Puno though (or the other way around), you will most likely pass by Copacabana which makes a relaxed stop near the Bolivian and Peruvian boarder.
If you have some more time in Copacabana (lots of buses stop there for a while), take the speed ferry to the island Isla del Sol. There is a beautiful walk with a great view and a lovely cafe for a coffee and cold drinks. So it’s great for an afternoon walk before you continue your journey to either Peru or further to Bolivia. Make sure though that the bus company you are travelling with is aware that you are just hopping off to visit Isla del Sol. So they wait for you in case the ferry has a delay on the way back!
It takes between one and two hours to get from Copacabana to Isla del Sol by speed boat. When you arrive at the island the ferry the first stop is for people that would like to do the trek across the island. If you are not up for that, just stay in the ferry and it will bring you straight to the cafes. From there you can still walk up and have a little walk with a great view :)

It’s not what you would normally expect when you go to a tropical island but I wouldn’t say it’s not beautiful. I love that you get to see how the locals live and it’s also looks quite peaceful.

This place seems so authentic and does not have a touristy trap feel! Seems quiet and remote!
