This morning we got up at 5.30am to join the snorkel tour Molekini island. The tour is organised by the Pacific Whale Foundation and starts at 7am – yes soooo early. But then everything kinda starts early here. We also went scubadiving super early cause else currents are too strong. Well and surfing starts early too of course :)
The snorkel tour started from the little harbour just off the Aquarium in Maui and then heads over to Molekini which takes around 45min.
At Molekini island everyone got into their snorkel gear and jumped into the water. It is quite a funny picture looking at all the people in the water… Like we had stranded somewhere..
Had my first coffee after the first snorkel site – finally waking up :)
The Molekini snorkel site was pretty but things are happening like 5-8m below you and if you are up for relaxed snorkeling only you might not see as much as in snorkel sites where you are closer to the reef. I would my recommend this either as scubadiving site as there are lots of better spots. On Monday we went scubadiving close to Lahaina which was one if the best and most chilled out dives I ever had with sooooooo much to see:)
After Molekini we made our way to Turtle Town. On the circa 20min a guy from the Pacific Whale Foundation team held a little presentation about marine life which was nice.
Turtle Town was soooo amazing! The coral reefs are super pretty and there is so much variety down there. Some parts are quite shallow while other parts are as deep as at the Molekini diving site.
There was one huge turtle exactly below us. It just lied down in the middle of the water and didn’t move for like 2min. Then it slowly dove away from us. What a beautiful creature!
After the second snorkel site, the crew made lunch for us and we headed back to Maui.
The snorkel trip was really cool. While I wasn’t a big fan of the first snorkel site, Turtle Town was definitely worth getting up so early :)
