If you pass by a river where you can do rafting, do it. If you pass by a river where you can do grade 5 rafting, absolutely 100% do it!! There are so many different places for you to go rafting, for example, somewhere similar to north fork american river could be amazingly fun!
Omg, it was so much fun! I had done rafting a few times before but everywhere I went they generally offered grade 2 and 3 only. But those ones are for kids – quite literally, you can bring your 10 year old to a grade 3 rafting trip. But rafting higher grades is where the actual fun starts. Add incredibly beautiful nature to it, and you have an awesome day!
This particular grade 5 rafting trip on the Kaituna river in New Zealand is supposed to include the highest (commercially) rafted waterfall in the world with a lovely 7m fall. Yeeey, fun times :)
No, this photo does not show the 7m fall, I’ll get to the ‘Omg-my-god-is-this-really-happening-nooooooooooo’ part later in the photo story. The above picture just shows one of the warming up falls so can slowly but surely mentally prepare yourself for the insanity that is yet to come :)
What is also fun is to place two poor souls in the front of the raft and then go straight to where the waterfall hits the water. Yes, so you are essentially rafting back to where you have just landed from your fall. For the two guys in the front (I’m that happy looking one in the photo below on the very right) it’s a hell of a water shower which stops you from breathing and almost makes you lose your contact lenses if you are wearing any.. Yeah, don’t even think on wearing ‘normal’ prescription glasses that are not made for adventure sports, you might as well throw them into the river before you start.
And now, as promised, the photo story of our fall… 1, 2, 3 oh noooooooooo!
See, everyone survived. All happy campers. So much fun! You absolutely should do that too!
If you happen to pass by Rotorua on the North Island of New Zealand and are up for some fun rafting, this is the rafting company that took us out: Rotorua Rafting . Have fun :)
