Are you a coffee addict?
I personally love coffee so much and I don’t really function well in the morning without my wake-up-coffee. I generally use the Nespresso machine as I’m a big fan the variety of different coffee and espresso tastes that they offer. My current favourite is the vanilla espresso :)
But I also like cappuccino that is brewed in a traditional way like it is often the case in lovely little cafes. It’s just one of the best lazy day activities while travelling: explore a new city, find a cosy cafe, have amazing cappuccino and read a good book :)
Same holds for travelling in Vietnam. There is just one little difference: while you sometimes have to be lucky to find a place with great coffee or cappuccino while travelling, almost every coffee place in Vietnam has amazing coffee. Even little corner shops or stalls in the street sell very, very yummy coffee.
Vietnamese coffee is served with sweet condensed milk and you can choose between hot coffee and iced coffee.
My favourite is the Vietnamese iced coffee, called cà phê sữa đá, with just a little bit more extra milk than usually served. Best coffee ever! You might think that the taste is that great just because of the sweet milk, but nope. I tried to use other types of coffee beans with the same milk and the taste is just not as good.
You generally can’t buy Vietnamese coffee in your normal coffee shop or cafe at home but most Vietnamese restaurants have cà phê sữa đá on the menu :) There are various places in London that offer quite an authentic Vietnamese coffee experience, just walk along Shoreditch and will come across a number of those. There is also a nice place in China Town for Vietnamese coffee.
After having spent two months in Vietnam with daily amazing coffee supply I would not have been able to go without Vietnamese coffee entirely. So I was so happy to see that London has a fairly good supply of it. Though I will probably order Vietnamese coffee online and then make it at home myself with crushed ice cubes and the sweet milk. Yum yum yum!
And if you just happen to be in Hanoi and are looking for a cool coffee place, try one of these really cool cafes.
